Avant mid-distance high-speed services allow the use of high-speed rail to enable mobility between nearby towns with very competitive travel times. These services stand out for their speed and comfort and are provided with high-speed trains specifically designed for short journeys, different from the AVE trains. Renfe runs over 100 Avant trains each day and carries an average of nine million passengers a year.
Renfe's Media Distancia services are used by an average of 15 million passengers per year. They connect numerous municipalities both with each other and with the main capitals in their regions or provinces. They are a genuine connecting force, linking every part of the country through the train, and offering more than 600 trips daily. Mid-distance trains, both Iberian and metric gauge, cover almost 35 million kilometres each year to connect thousands of people with each other.
