Renfe acts as shadow operator in the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico

In consortium with Ineco and DB Engineering & Consulting, Renfe will participate for three years in the Maya Train project in Mexico. Renfe will be the "shadow operator" of the procuring entity (the National Tourism Development Fund) in the implementation of the project, providing support during its construction and defining the operations and maintenance requirements.

In addition, the shadow operator shall supervise the manufacture, delivery and commissioning of the rolling stock and all systems until the commercial service testing period.

Main characteristics

  • Length of the network: 1,525 km.
  • It will connect Palenque with Cancun via two routes (west-north and east-south)
  • 28 stations

Leo Express In 2021, Renfe carried out the acquisition of 50% of the operator Leo Express following the share capital increase of the Czech company.
