Open innovation: TrenLab
TrenLab Renfe's open innovation engine

In 2018, we launched TrenLab, the open innovation platform designed to connect startups, entrepreneurs and professionals in the sector, with the aim to develop solutions that transform mobility.

Today, TrenLab is a consolidated ecosystem that promotes technological projects that improve the passenger experience, sustainability and operational efficiency of Renfe.

A space where technology, talent and creativity come together to transform mobility and drive the future of rail transport.

Most important, and beyond these figures, is the impact of these collaborations for the company, its processes and passengers. At TrenLab, we believe that innovation is nurtured by multiple paths.

One of the most powerful arises when the ingenuity and agility of startups are combined with the experience, resources and projection of a large corporation like Renfe.

In that meeting, solutions are born that not only respond to real challenges, but also transform the way we move, connect and experience mobility.

Our programme is that bridge: a space where vision becomes the pilot and the pilot becomes the real impact.

TrenLab not only drives pilot projects and agreements with Renfe, it promotes culture and a new way of conducting business: Open, collaborative, connected to the ecosystem. It is our tool to carry out a decentralised innovation model, always aligned with our pillars: Operational efficiency, sustainability and most importantly, customer focus.

More than one hundred national and international startups participated in the last edition of Trenlab, offering solutions to some of Renfe's four key challenges in areas like customer service, predictive maintenance of rolling stock and the exploration of new disruptive technologies, like quantum computing, which will contribute to transforming the future of mobility and, therefore, of Renfe.

Challenges and winning startups of the sixth edition:

TrenLab VI Demo Day

Innovation has no limits when we connect talent, purpose and technology.

And that is exactly what we wanted to demonstrate at the Demo Day of the Sixth TrenLab Call.

The startups Turing Challenge, Robot Technology Solutions, CYRACO GmbH and QCentroid showed that the best solutions arise when large corporations and entrepreneurs work together with the same goal: transforming the mobility of the future.

For six months, they developed their pilots together with Renfe teams, applying artificial intelligence, augmented reality and quantum computing to improve the customer experience and operational efficiency.
