The public business entity Renfe-Operadora is a public body as provided for in Article 103 of Law 40/2015, of 1 October, on the Legal Regime of the Public Sector, which is attached to the Ministry of Public Works.
Renfe Operadora has its own legal personality, separate from that of the State, full capacity to act in the attainment of its corporate purpose, and its own equity and assets, under the terms established in the third additional provision Law 38/2015, of 1 October 2015, of the Railway Sector, and according to the terms stipulated in its own Articles of Association, approved by Royal Decree 2396/2004 of 30 December (published in the Official State Gazette on 31 December).
The Renfe group and its companies are based on five lines of activity: passenger transport and marketing of associated products in metropolitan, regional, national and international settings (Renfe Viajeros, S.A.), freight transport and logistics services (Renfe Mercancías, S.A.), maintenance and industrial work (Ingeniería y Mantenimiento, S.A.) and managing rolling stock for hire (Renfe Alquiler de Material Ferroviario, S.A.) and Renfe International Projects.
