Machinist Certification
Renfe's Technical Professional School of Driving and Operations (ETPCO), approved by the Spanish Railway Safety Agency' Training Centre of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, offers a preparatory course to obtain both the Engine Driver Licence and the Diploma that certifies you have the minimum general knowledge required to obtain the Engine Driver Certification.

To be a train driver you need

The Course

The course lasts 1,150 hours, taught over approximately 10 months.

  • Theoretical Training: 650 hours
  • Practical Training: 500 hours

The practical training includes more than 200 hours of hands-on driving practice on the lines of the General Interest Railway Network and on Renfe trains, in addition to driving simulation sessions.

We have trainers with extensive experience in the railway industry, who endorse our Technical School as a leading Training Centre.

At the end of the course, the Agencia Estatal de Seguridad Ferroviaria (State Railway Safety Agency) will organise the exams for you to obtain your certification as an engine driver.

Amount: €21,200 * Subject to changes, according to the call.

Requisites

Have reached 20 years of age before the end of the course.

Have a Baccalaureate education certificate, an Intermediate Vocational Training qualification or any equivalent qualifications for employment purposes.

Obtain a medical certificate of psychophysical fitness issued by a medical centre approved by the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF).

For those whose native language is not Spanish, it will be necessary to prove sufficient knowledge of Spanish, by means of a certificate issued by a language teaching centre officially recognised by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training.

Additional items

On some occasions, a quota of places for cross-border traffic is reserved for applicants with a B1 level of French or higher.
