Expert Course in Railway Operations

This programme, developed by Renfe Campus, seeks to respond to the growing demand for highly qualified professionals in railway operations. The aim is to transmit the experience and know-how accumulated by Renfe over the years. It provides a comprehensive view of the sector, addressing key aspects such as:

Structure and contents

It is made up of several thematic modules that combine theoretical and practical training, using an approach and methodology that facilitate the application of knowledge.

  • Module 1: Railway Legislation II.
  • Module 2: Infrastructure and Superstructure II.
  • Module 3: Introduction to rolling stock.
  • Module 4: Visit to a maintenance centre.
  • Module 5: Control, command and signalling.
  • Module 6: Driving simulator practice.
  • Module 7: Introduction to traffic operations and management.
  • Module 8: Telematics applications in the railway system.
  • Module 9: Visit to a railway command post.
  • Module 10: Railway operating personnel.
  • Module 11: Management of railway operations.
  • Module 12: Self-protection: basic concepts.
  • Module 13: Human and organisational factors.
  • Module 14: Analysis of risks, accidents and safety culture.
  • Module 15: Third-party practices in the driver's cab.
  • Module 16: Final project of the programme.

Goals

Educating professionals, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of railway operations and training them to perform planning, management and operation functions within any operational area. Participants acquire the following skills:

  • Understanding of railway subsystems and their interaction.
  • Understanding of the stakeholders involved in operations, as well as the interactions between them.
  • Knowledge of railway standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles of self-protection.
  • Knowledge of the telematic tools used in the operation.
  • Application of safety methodologies and risk analysis.
  • Acquire knowledge about human and organisational factors.

Assessment and Certification

The Course

The course lasts 480 hours, taught in approximately 3 months.

  • Face-to-face modality.
  • 25 students maximum per group.
  • Proprietary qualification issued by RENFE Campus recognised throughout the Spanish railway sector.

Internships at workshops, management centres, driving simulators, terminals, etc. will be scheduled depending on the availability of resources; they may be completed at a different time than established.

Methodology

The programme stands out for its practical approach, integrating theory and direct experience in real professional environments.

Participants acquire applied skills and solid preparation to face the needs and challenges of the sector, through visits to:

  • Maintenance Centres
  • Simulators
  • Driver's cabs
  • Railway Command Posts

The training ends with a tutored project as part of which students apply the knowledge acquired, thus guaranteeing an enriching educational experience that is directly applicable to the professional environment.

Requisites

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have, at least, a Baccalaureate qualification or equivalent for academic purposes (Vocational Training Technician or equivalent for employment purposes).
  • The internships of the Programme will be carried out in work centres and facilities such as railway vehicle cabins, maintenance bases or other spaces whose configuration responds to the need to comply with national and international regulations and certifications. That the participants in the Programme have adequate capacities for their proper development, including the possibility of accessing these spaces and moving within them safely and effectively. To this end, the student will be asked for a statement of responsibility, confirming that they do not have any limiting condition that prevents them from carrying out these activities in the manner indicated.

The course is delivered by the Professional Technical School of Driving and Operations (ETPCO), in collaboration with professionals in the field of operations at the Renfe Group. You will have a highly qualified teaching team with extensive experience in the railway sector and teaching.
